Following an extensive pilot programme, Express Dairies has instructed Portable Software Solutions (PSS) to supply its 1,800 UK franchisees with its portable IT solution.
The contract, the implementation of which is worth £2 million, extending to £4 million throughout 1999, should see the end of milkmen having to account for each week with a manual 'roundsbook'.
PSS sales director John Carman estimates that mobile computing will save milkmen "five hours a week in book work" - leaving 260 hours per year for whistling, collecting empties and seducing bored housewives!
