The Eco Button is a simple button that connects to a computer with a standard
USB plug. When pressed, it puts the computer into a sleep mode so the computer
uses less electricity than if it were on but it starts again much more quickly
than if it was shut down. The computer returns to normal by pressing any key on
the keyboard.
The manufacturer claims that the computer will only use 1.8W in this
power-saving mode as opposed to more than 100W.
It costs £15, which is a little high given that the same power-saving mode
can be access through the Windows Shutdown menu.
More information can be found at
www.eco-button.com,
including a
calculator
to work out how much money and CO2 emissions can be saved with the button.
