: Quiet day today ... got up late, didn't do much, stared out of the window watching a man paste up a poster and then draw a moustache on it... always wondered who did that. Stared blankly at PC screen for roughly two hours - a personal record since the Hamster Dance went offline.

2pm: heard a banging noise outside but turned head too slowly and missed what made it, made note to self to work on reflexes but it slipped through my hand and landed in cereal bowl. Added note about hand-eye co-ordination, but soggy now. Put on radiator to dry. Left work about 5.30 = early.

Friday 26 September: Another quiet day. Was up late again as watched six episodes of Dr Who back-to-back last night. Still working on theory that length of scarf is related to attractiveness of assistant. Phoned in sick for work, but video shop all out of Dr Who so went to HMV nearby. Sales assistant had vacant look when I asked him about The Talons of Wen Chiang, or The Brain of Morbius... I suspected he hadn't heard of the good Doctor, either that or amount of metal pierced in his face affecting brain responses. Back to work sans DVDs. Left early. Came home and found a creased piece of paper on radiator. Smelled of stale milk so threw it in bin. Well, on the floor near the bin ... Hope it wasn't important.

Monday 29 September: Early to work. In-tray toppled, creating mess that made work impossible. Started clean up but noticed gap between my desk and one adjacent. Swept papers into gap. Was going to work on column for this week but could not find notes... might be at home so left early. No notes at home.

Tuesday 30 September: Found an article about usefulness of weblogs in workplace. Works for me as often update mine at desk - not sure of business benefits though. Useful tool for regular updates on issues, news, company policy - lets customers feel like they are part of a community I suppose. Column due today - lunchtime.

3pm: column now very late. Might do it on weblogs as Dr Who vetoed by editor... no IT industry angle apparently. Found a few good blogs about companies, products, etc - these created by disgruntled customers. Looked at counters and found that some get a lot of hits. Many complaints concern lack of openness about company. Perhaps a blog would ease this. Spoke to a company that has a blog, which said yes it does please customers and is a useful tool for feedback on new and planned products and services.

Wednesday 1 October: 12.30pm - was called into work as column now extremely overdue. After rather a late night I had forgotten about it. It's very difficult to measure a scarf that is wrapped around someone's neck, keeps moving, and is on the television. At work looked into blogs again. Found that many research firms offer analyst weblogs - a good way to promote knowledge and information. Would work well for firms also - openness for customers, and staff. A useful way to spread information, news and announcements and gauge feedback. Surprised more companies do not use them. Phone message from vid shop. Dr Who DVDs now in!
