Enterprise vendor Novell has acquired
open source team collaboration firm
SiteScape for an undisclosed sum.
Novell chief executive Ron Hovsepian said that the SiteScape acquisition
squares with Novell's corporate strategy, "It extends our leadership in
promoting open source in the enterprise market and is a key technology addition
in an area where we see great growth potential."
SiteScape founded the ICEcore
open source collaboration project, which it says, gives enterprises the ability
to combine document management, online project management, web calendars and
automated workflows. ICEcore also has real-time presence features including
instant messaging, as well as giving users the ability to implement blogs, share
files and create secure threaded discussions, and wikis.
IDC analyst Mark Levitt said, "Enterprise and SMB customers are looking for
solutions that combine real-time messaging, conferencing and IP voice calling
along with online workspaces, social networking, blogs, and wikis to improve
team and enterprise productivity and innovation."
