Power management software developer Verdiem has upgraded its Surveyor Software, for use with PC networks. The company said that the upgrades would help firms better manage their systems and reduce their carbon footprint.

Surveyor automatically puts machines into low-power settings when they are not being used, the firm said, adding that the software could save businesses approximately £35 per PC per year.

"We offer global businesses a solution to minimise IT energy waste, cutting energy bills while significantly reducing the company's IT carbon footprint," said Kevin Klustner, president and chief executive of Verdiem.

Released yesterday, the company said that the updated version of the suite boasts a range of new administrative features designed to appeal to IT managers. For example, the new suite includes improved remote desktop access tools, which allows users to access their PC reomtely through a web interface whether it is in low power mode, or not.

Enhanced patch management functionality also allows IT managers to automatically 'wake up' machines should they be subject to any patching, or other scheduled events.
