The top data storage challenge facing organisations is how to implement the
right disaster recovery strategy, according to new research carried out on
behalf of Storage Expo.
Eighty-three per cent of companies surveyed said that implementing the right
disaster recovery strategy was the biggest problem, with the second most
important issue ensuring data security for the business (82 per cent), followed
by the management of increasing volumes of data (81 per cent).
Centralising data access was a concern for 79 per cent of organisations
closely followed by how to store data cost effectively at 77 per cent. Ensuring
compliance with the latest data storage legislation and knowing what regulations
to comply with are of concern to 68 per cent of organisations, while achieving
interoperability across existing storage solutions was an issue for 60 per cent.
The Storage Expo event, which
takes place in London in October, will highlight the pressing need for efficient
storage architecture, as enterprise storage requirements continue to grow at
break-neck pace – currently the volume of data being stored is growing at 50 per
cent a year.
The programme includes Graeme Hackland, IT manager for the Renault F1 Team,
who will give an insight into modular architecture and growing with clustered
storage, as well as keynotes from Dylan Matthias, Unix and storage manager at
the Britannia Building Society and Graeme Walker, senior systems engineer at
Carlsberg.
