Thousands say: 'SCO sue me'

Thousands of scornful members of the Linux community have signed an online petition to "highlight the pomposity" of SCO's claim to ownership of intellectual property in Linux.

Last week, SCO sent letters to 1,500 international Linux users warning them that they could be liable for using SCO's code.

So far, over 2,500 Linux users have signed a petition challenging SCO to sue them.

The message reads: "I am a Linux user. I feel that SCO's tactics toward an operating system of my choice are unjust, ill founded and bizarre.

"I am willing to be sued because I am confident that SCO's tactics toward Linux will fail.

"If I have published my email address as part of this petition it is so that SCO representatives can email me and begin the process of serving me a court order."

Signatories are also given the chance to comment on SCO's actions.

One summed up the general feeling among signatories: "I can't claim enough expertise to say that your intellectual property claims are completely unfounded, but I can see that you do not know what you want, keep changing your story, and have handled the entire situation incredibly poorly."

Another wrote: "The damage SCO is causing to the open source community is baseless, malicious and inexcusable."

Others stated that they would never buy from SCO again. "I will NEVER purchase anything from SCO and I will vehemently oppose purchasing anything from SCO for the rest of my career as a system engineer and software developer!" wrote one.

But pride of place has to go to the user who wrote: "Please, sue me and my mother, we both proudly use Linux."
