Napster adds ring-tones to the Kitty

Digital music firm Napster has opened the virtual doors to an online mobile phone ringtone store dubbed Napstertones. The service is currently available only to music fans in the US.

In partnership with mobile entertainment content firm Dwango Wireless, Napster will provide polyphonic ring-tones, master-tones and voice-tones of artist "shout-outs".

The service will also offer mobile phone wallpaper featuring old favourites such as the Napster Kitty and other graphics from Napster's library. Each graphic or ring-tone will cost between $1.99 and $2.99.

Napstertones is initially available to US Cingular and T-Mobile subscribers. Dwango and Napster expect that customers of most major carriers will be able to access the service by summer 2005.

The service also has a planned rollout in Canada to Rogers Wireless and Fido in June, but no plans have yet been announced for a UK or European launch.

Napstertones can be directly purchased from Napster at www.napstertones.com, www.napster.com or from within Napster's digital music service.
