Microsoft has partnered with the Mayo Clinic to develop tools that allow consumers to manage health information and their relationships with medical service providers.

Microsoft's Health Solutions Group is aiming to use technology to help bridge gaps in the health care system,

The partnership is designed to facilitate closer patient-to-physician connections, and allow patients and consumers to better manage their health and wellness information.

The two companies were vague on the small print, but intend to announce further details before the end of the year.

"We are committed to finding new technology solutions that put the patient and consumer in control," said Brooks Edwards, chief medical officer at Mayo Clinic Health Solutions.

Peter Neupert, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Health Solutions Group, added: "Consumers demand and deserve tools that make their lives easier, facilitate communication and help them take action to manage their health."
