Dell has pledged to cut the power consumption of its PCs and laptops by 25
per cent by 2010.
The savings will come from better circuit designs, more efficient fans and
improved power management systems.
Dell will also work with suppliers to cut power use, and said that it is
making the changes to meet customer demand.
"Our customers are inspiring us to address the environmental challenges
facing our planet," said Albert Esser, vice president of power and
infrastructure solutions at Dell's Product Group.
"We have listened to them and are designing next-generation technologies that
dramatically reduce energy consumption, drive meaningful cost savings and help
achieve a low-carbon economy.
"It is the right thing for our business, our customers and our shared
environment."
Dell has been trumpeting its green credentials with a string of recent
announcements.
In February 2008 Dell became the
first
PC manufacturer to join the Climate Group, a collection of governments and
companies committed to addressing global warming.
